State Licensing Requirements

Colorado is the place for anyone who like to get outdoors year round. The great climate and varied terrain make it a paradise for hiking, biking, fishing, or skiing. There are more than 100 hospitals, surgery centers, mental health and rehabilitation centers in the state with smaller healthcare facilities and hospitals in rural areas in need of physicians.

Colorado Medical License Application
How long will this take me?

Allow three to four months. It could be less.

How quickly can I obtain my license?

Using our expedited service, we can have your application and verifications out the door within five business days. The vast majority of applicants, however, are approved by the Board and licensed within 60 to 90 days of receipt of their application materials. Colorado accepts the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) application.

If I’ve had a malpractice case what is the effect of malpractice suits on licensure applications?

The licensure application asks only about those suits which are pending, or in which judgments or settlements have been rendered in the last five years. The applicant should provide a narrative of the circumstance of the suit, including information regarding the clinical care provided.

As an IMG, what are some of the requirements?

The requirements include, but are not limited to, graduation from a medical school approved by the Colorado Medical Board, 36 months of clinically based postgraduate training in the United States or Canada, and one of the following: FLEX Exam (must also have passed the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates exam), state written exam, NBME or USMLE.

Am I required to earn CME hours if I was recently licensed/reinstated?

No.

Am I required to be board certified?

No, however, Colorado has The Continued Competency Rule requiring that the applicant, if not having engaged in active practice for two or more years in any state or country prior to the request for reinstatement or reactivation of the license, be able to demonstrate continued competency. Competency may be demonstrated by re-testing and/or re-training, or other means as proposed to and accepted by the Board.

You practice medicine, leave the license to us.
